The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the friendship city affiliation between Osaka and Shanghai, and to commemorate this anniversary, the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka will hold a special exhibition, "Chinese Ceramics: Treasures of Shanghai Museum × Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka," under the auspices of the Shanghai Museum.
Opened in 1952, the Shanghai Museum is known as one of China's leading world-class museums and a treasure trove of Chinese cultural artifacts, including bronzes, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, sculptures, jade objects, and coins.
The ceramics collection is one of the highlights of the museum's collection. The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka has deepened its friendship with the Shanghai Museum through exhibition cooperation and academic exchange.
To commemorate this milestone in the friendship between the two cities, the Shanghai Museum will exhibit a total of 50 masterpieces of Chinese ceramics, including 22 works on display in Japan for the first time (19 of which are on display overseas for the first time).
